The Virgo Gold Cloth is the cloth of the Saint Shaka in Saint Seiya, Soul of Gold, and Saint Seiya: Episode G , Asmita in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, and Shijima in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension. It is of the highest class of the cloths that Athena’s Saints wield, the Gold Cloths.
The Virgo constellation was based on the Goddess of Justice and purity, Astræa. She stayed with Humanity on Earth longer than any god, until the Bronze Age, when she finally couldn’t take it anymore, and ascended to the Heavens, becoming a constellation, while her scales of justice became the nearby Libra constellation. In modern times, the constellation came to symbolize the Virgin Mary, more well known to the western world.
Shaka trained to be a Saint in the Ganges River Valley, years before the birth of the modern Athena, by an unknown master. The cloth was likely kept in Sanctuary until a Saint worthy of wearing it was found. Shaka first appeared in volume 5 of the manga, the first Gold Saint shown in his Cloth. This scene was removed from the anime, so he showed up much later in the anime. Shaka, as a reincarnation of Buddha, was a powerful Saint who defeated many threats who faced him, until Phoenix Ikki, who let his senses get destroyed to gain more powerful than “The Man Closest to God”. He also fought off and killed many Specters during the Hades Arc. He eventually died, forcing the invading Saints who returned from the dead to kill him with the “Athena Exclamation”. He arrived at Judecca with Athena, but failed to kill Hades, and Hades fled with Athena. He failed to break the barrier, but was joined by the other Saints and combined his powers with the other Gold Saints to destroy the Wall of Lamentations, dying in the process. When the Virgo Gold Cloth was sent to Elyseum by Poseidon, Shun donned the cloth, until Thanatos shattered it.
Lost Canvas/Next Dimension : Previous War
Asmita was the Guardian of the sixth house of Sanctuary in The Lost Canvas, and the “Man Closest to God”/Reincarnation of Buddha during that period. Shijima was the Guardian of the sixth house of Sanctuary in Next Dimension, and the “Man Closest to God”/Reincarnation of Buddha during that period. Asmita was called “The Blind Saint” due to his lack of vision, and thought Sasha’s connection to Alone would interfere, and considered killing her for it. This isn’t changed until after meeting Tenma, when he sees the possibility that she can be the goddess the Saintsneed. He sacrifices his life by awakening his Eighth Sense, and creating the Rosary that seals the souls of the Specters so they can’t revive. Shijima was called “The Silent Man” due to an inability to speak, communicating either with his mind and the Sixth Sense, or his cosmo and the Seventh Sense. In an era with a lack of an Athena, Shijima could sense her cosmo approaching their time. When Athena arrives, he senses trouble, and manages to save Athena from the Pope, taking an injury. The arrival of Pisces Cardinale ends with a rose piercing his chest. He flees with the baby goddess, trying to reach out to the other Gold Saints with his mind.
