The Ophiuchus Silver Cloth is the cloth of the Saint Shaina in Saint Seiya, Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and Saint Seiya: Omega, and an unknown Saint in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas. It is of the second class of the cloths that Athena’s Saints wield, the Silver Cloths.
The Ophiuchus constellation can represent the healer Asclepius, who carried a rod with a snake wrapped around it. He was a gifted healer, who was struck down by Zeus, but raised into the heavens as the Ophiuchus in tribute.
Shaina trained to be a Saint in Sanctuary by an unknown master. The cloth was likely kept in Sanctuary until a Saint worthy of wearing it was found. Like all Female Saints, she must wear a mask when around men. Shaina first appeared in volume 1 of the manga, as the master of Cassios, the rival of Seiya for the Pegasus Bronze Cloth. She attacks Seiya without her Cloth, and is unable to stop him in the end without it. After Seiya and co defeats the first wave of Silver Saints, Shaina is sent with several Silver Saints to take Seiya and his fellow Bronze Saints out, but is unable to bring herself to hurt him. She injures herself to protect him and recovers back in Sanctuary. During the fight with Sanctuary, she fails to prevent Cassios from sacrificing himself, but recovers Marin’s unconscious body. During the Poseidon Arc, she fights off Mermaid Tethys and attempts to defeat Poseidon, but fails. She uses her body to shield Seiya, so he can attack without fear of himself being harmed. During the Hades Arc, she defends Sanctuary, and Seika, when Thanatos tries to kill her.
The Cloth was seen briefly at a gathering of Saints in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, but has only rarely been seen since.
In Next Dimension, Shaina appears before Marin and Hyoga, offering to protect Seiya with Marin so Hyoga can join Athena and the others in the past. This leaves two Silver Saints to protect Seiya vs an Angel. Her cloth appears to have been repaired (likely self repaired) since the damage it took in the Hades Arc.
