The Capricorn Gold Cloth is the Cloth of the Saint Shura in Saint Seiya, Soul of Gold, and Saint Seiya: Episode G, El Cid in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, Izo in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and Ionia in Saint Seiya: Omega. It is of the highest class of the Cloths that Athena’s Saints wield, the Gold Cloths.
The Capricornus constellation has basis in the story that told of when the monster Typhon attacked, the god Pan jumped into the river to escape. His upper body remained that of a Goat, while his lower half became that of a fish. It is this image that gives the constellation note of the Sea Goat.
Shura trained to be a Saint in the Pyrenees Mountains (Spain) by an unknown master. The Cloth was likely kept in Sanctuary until a Saint worthy of wearing it was found. Shura first appeared in volume 11 of the manga, in the The House of the Sea Goat. He was the one who dealt the fatal blow to Aiolos under the orders of the False Pope. Up until his death, he assumed serving the evil Pope could still lead to good things, but his mind was changed by Shiryu’s sacrifice. Later, it is revealed that, through some means, his Excalibur was inherited to Shiryu. His next appearance was at Sanctuary along with Camus and Saga during the Hades Arc, in Surplices in a ploy to help Athena fight Hades. He returned in the land of the dead with his Cloth, and the other Gold Saints combined their power into his arrow to destroy the Wall of Lamentations, which ended up killing him.
In Episode G, it is revealed that Shura had begun to have doubts if his killing of Sagittarius Aiolos was just, given his complete lack of attempting to fight back or to don his Cloth. Episode Gdid seem to at least attempt to justify the evils of some of the Gold Saints who had betrayed Athena during the Sanctuary Arc.
Lost Canvas/Next Dimension: Previous War
El Cid was the Guardian of the tenth house of Sanctuary in The Lost Canvas. His main feat is his teaming up with Tenma (and later Sisyphus) to take out the Four Dream Gods under Hypnos. Through constant battle and planning, they are able to take out all of the dream gods, but not without it taking a toll on El Cid, dying in the end. In Next Dimension, Izo is the Capricorn of the Previous Holy War, and was given the nickname “The Demon Slayer”. He is first seen helping Taurus Ox punish the reckless Saints Shion, Dohko, and Tenma. He eventually finds Athena with the other Gold Saints, but is ordered by the Pope (1700s) to return to his Temple and defend it.
In Saint Seiya: Omega, Ionia is the Capricorn Gold Saint. He was given the Cloth, along with his promotion to Headmaster of Palaestra by Athena. Despite expressing his gratitude to her to Kouga, and having run the school for many years, he is revealed to be a traitor, now worshiping Mars. His element was revealed to be Darkness, as he manipulated a fake Athena to turn the Palaestra into a Dark Prison. His ability to command people makes him a powerful asset to Mars.
