The Cancer Gold Cloth is the Cloth of the Saints Deathmask in Saint Seiya, Soul of Gold and Saint Seiya: Episode G, Manigoldo and Sage in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, Deathtoll in Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and Schiller in Saint Seiya: Omega. It is of the highest class of the Cloths that Athena’s Saints wield, the Gold Cloths.
The Cancer constellation was based on the crab, Cancer, who Hera sent to distract Heracles, while he fought the Lernaean Hydra. Heracles promptly took it out, and Hera took pity on Cancer, and placed the crab in the sky as a constellation.
Deathmask trained to be a Saint in Sicily, years before the birth of the modern Athena, by an unknown master. The cloth was likely kept in Sanctuary until a Saint worthy of wearing it was found. Deathmask fought Shiryu at the border between the realm of life and death, and his cloth left him due to his evil, unforgiving ways. Shiryu knocked Deathmask into the opening of the underworld, killing him. He returned to assault Sanctuary with the Specters, and was slain by Mu. He returned once more to combine his powers with the other Gold Saints to destroy the Wall of Lamentations, dying in the process.
Lost Canvas/Next Dimension : Previous War
Manigoldo was the Guardian of the fourth house of Sanctuary in The Lost Canvas, and died during the fight with Thanatos. Manigoldo used all his remaining power to destroy the body Thanatos used, so Sage could seal his soul. Both Cancer Saints died from that battle, Manigoldo from overexerting himself, and Sage to seal Thanatos away.
In Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, Deathtoll was the Guardian of the Fourth house of Sanctuary, and opposed Shun and Tenma from passing through his temple. He knew of the Pope’sbetrayal, but hasn’t made it clear if he sides with him. Called “The Coffin Maker”, he puts the souls of spirits who come to his temple into coffins he makes, and sends them to the after life, doing the same to Shun and Tenma. After sending them to the entrance to the Underworld with Sekishiki Meikai Ha, he is confronted by Garuda Suikyo, still under the influence of Gemini Abel’s Demon Emperor Fist. While he seems to lose at first, his realization that Garuda Suikyo isn’t truly a traitor causes him to reveal his true nature, that he is neutral to either god winning the Holy War, and was playing the situation to his favor. While he then proceeds to dominate the three, Tenma tricks the effeminately speaking Gold Saint, being sealed into the ultimate coffin of his own creation, the Omertà. He is now trapped in the Omertà, at the edge of the border between the living realm and Hell.
