The Andromeda Bronze Cloth is a Cloth given to Shun by Cepheus Daidalos of Andromeda Island. He is the Andromeda Saint during Saint Seiya, Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, and Saint Seiya: Omega. It is of the lowest class of the Cloths that Athena’s Saints wield, the Bronze Cloths.
Andromeda was the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia, whole ruled Ethiopia as King and Queen respectively. Queen Cassiopeia bragged that she was more beautiful than the Nereids, Sea Nymphs who accompanied Poseidon, god of the sea. Poseidon, in retribution, sent the sea monster Cetus to assault their kingdom and Ethiopia. Andromeda had to sacrifice herself, or the monster would not stop. She was chained to the rocks naked as a sacrifice. The hero Perseus, having just slayed Medusa, arrived and defeated Cetus, saving, and eventually marrying Andromeda. Upon her death, Andromeda was placed in the sky as a constellation by Athena.
The Andromeda Bronze Cloth was kept on the deceptively hellish Island of Andromeda, where temperatures ranged from deathly freezing, to intensely hot. Andromeda Island was considered the second worst training ground, next to Death Queen Island. Shun had earned the Andromeda Bronze Cloth by using his cosmos while chained by the cloth to rocks at the island’s edge, nearly drowning. Having freed himself, he earned the cloth and the right to be called a Saint.
